Saturday we were invited to a Western themed kid's party. Outfits were highly recommended and this is what I came up with for Maddy. The neat thing about this outfit is that this vest is from Maddy's great-great-Grandpa. We have pictures of Uncle Jason wearing it when he was little, my dad when he was little, my grandma when she was little and then her daddy too! It's verrry old. I thought it was so cool that my dad remembered the vest and let Maddy wear it too! I need to get pictures of everyone when they were little wearing that vest, that would be neat! Anyway, she turned out pretty darn cute, huh? She LOVED dressing up, she said she looked just like Woody! (Toy Story 1 and 2 are her favorite movies.)
I was asked to bring a dessert, so I came up with this, a cowboy boot cake. I found the recipe on the M&M website and I thought it would be perfect! We woke up early on Saturday morning to get the cake started, Maddy wanted to help me bake as usual. She is such a good little kitchen helper!
When we got to the party we were so impressed! The family had gone all out! There backyard was covered in hay barrels. There were horses and ponies there for the kids to ride and even some cute bunnies to pet too! They had their backyard decorated in sections. There was a "Jail House" - where the bad guys got taken! A "Chuckwagon" - where the food was served. A "Saloon" - adult beverages as well as kid friendly ones too! A "Hoe Down" - where they had some entertainment and a "General Store" - where the kids got to use their prize winnings to buy things. It was so cute! Madison fell in love with a baby bunny that was there. She held him for so long and eventually found a bucket and carried him around in it. They had some really good food. Played some cute games - Maddy even won a game where all the kids had to find the horses that had been stolen from the bad horse thief! The horses were scattered throughout the yard and whoever found 'em won the horse and a dollar too! She was so excited to find that horse! They had dessert, some entertainment, then called each kid up and were given really nice presents. Maddy got a cute hide-n-seek doll, she was so excited. We were so thankful to our friends for having such a nice kid's party! It was lots of fun! Pictures from the day are up on Dropshots!
